Mickey Garland

Obituary of Mickey Lee Garland

Mickey Garland, at 64, passed away peacefully with loving family at his side. His serious medical conditions in recent years only proved to show how courageous and determined he was to take care of his family while battling debilitating pain. His sense of humor and ability to focus on all of people he loved kept his heart fulfilled until the very end. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1957, he grew up loving the mountains and it's where he developed his life long passion for building hot rods and all things mechanical. He moved to Florida in 1979 and told his brother that Florida was "it" for him. He had a successful career as a welder and machinist allowing him the ability to travel and work. Later on he began to build a life with his wife Dawn, daughter Tia and step-children Jared and Sable. Mickey was an amazing father that instilled hard work, focus, and compassion for others. He generously shared his time and knowledge with his family, friends and strangers as he had the ability to see the potential in everyone. Mickey always loved a project, or 10, and had an amazing and natural mechanical talent to solve those "unsolvable" problems. Mickey is a prime example of pursuing what one is made to do. Mickey is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Patsy Garland and siblings Norah Hoilman (sister) and Charles Garland (brother). Mickey is survived by his wife Dawn Garland of St. Petersburg, Tia Garland (daughter) of St. Petersburg, Sable Mongold (step-daughter) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Jared Mongold (step-son) and Rebecca Mongold (daughter-in-law) of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and grandchildren Mason and Shepherd. He is also survived by sister Kathy Fagan (Darrell) of Elizabethton, Tennessee and brothers Dickey (Karen) Garland of Elizabethton, Tennessee and Butch Garland of Johnson City, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
