With profound sadness we announce the passing of Carmela Genua, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on August 07, 2021.
She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Saint Petersburg, Florida. She was in her 96th year, just twenty days shy of 97.
Born in Foggia, Italy she witnessed incredible changes to her world, having lost her mother at child birth, her father was unable to care for her as she was the youngest of seven children, four brothers and two sisters. Carmela was then raised by the nuns of a local Convent until the ripe age of eighteen.
During her time in the convent, she learned the trade of embordering, she was a true master at her trade as she sowed gold thread for those in all class statuses as she never turned someone away.
Upon leaving the convent she met her loving husband Giovanni Genua, who served with the Italian Army. Married in Foggia Italy in 1947, shortly after they began their family having seven children of their own.
They immigrated to the United States in 1969, settling in Buffalo, New York to give their children a chance at a better life.
She was the beloved mother of Vito (Gina), Angela (late Ottavio), Joseph (Beth), Anna (Earl), Giulio (Lisa). Proud grandmother of Camelina (Dave), Marinica (Kory), John (Jennifer), Jackie, Dominique (Edwin), Jessica (Justin), John-Paul and Julie. Proud great grandmother of Isabella, David Anthony, Dominic, Annabella, Gabriella, Antonio, Daniella, Ella, Jenna, Nolyn and Joviana.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Giovanni and sons Vito and Giulio.
Carmela lived a full life as a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother homemaker and woman of God.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
