Sarah Alvero

Obituary of Sarah Cristina Alvero

Obituary of Sarah Cristina Alvero (nee Nadal) 1922-2021 Loving mother of Evelyn Rosetti (Alan) and Ruben Alvero (Karen). Cherished grandmother of Erika Noel Alvero, Andrew Duncan Rosetti (Brook), Alicia Megan Alvero, Christina Marie Rosetti, and William Carlos Alvero. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her children, Elesvan Alvero. She was a dear sister of the late Jorge, Ruben, Carlos, Otilio, Rafael and Juanito Nadal. Sarah was the daughter of Rafael Nadal and Evelia Rodriguez. Sarah grew up in the small eastern Cuban town of Puerto Padre where she met Elesvan, whom she married in 1955. She lived for a time in Havana and then travelled to the United States several times before settling in New York City in 1962 with her husband and children. The family moved to New Jersey in 1975 and then finally settled in St. Petersburg in 1984. Sarah worked in New York’s garment district and later became a homemaker. She delighted in the comings and goings of her children and grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. She was happy to have travelled both domestically and overseas with her family. A meticulous craftswoman, she sewed her own clothes, crocheted afghans and doilies, and embroidered fine cloth and baby clothes. She discovered exercise late in life, pedaling her tricycle until her late 80’s. She could often be seen competing with cars in heavy traffic on her way to go shopping. Sarah loved her garden and her passion for animals was a common theme throughout her life. From smuggling her beloved parrot into the U.S., to caring for her poodles in New York City, she was always joyful with animals around. Sarah spent her final six years living with her daughter and family, where morning espresso and afternoon dominoes made her feel at home. Her family would like to thank the caring staff of Suncoast Hospice Foundation who made the final days of her time with us peaceful and dignified.
