Marie Theresa Turley
Born in Fitchburg, MA, on July 16, 1923.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a Master's in Education degree at Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee.
Entered Convent in 1941.
She taught in elementary school for 37 years in the states of Illinois, Mississippi, and Florida. Retired from teaching in 1980.
In 1995 she began volunteer work for the Hospice of Florida Suncoast until 2013.
From 1999-2004 she became involved in volunteer work at Catholic Charities, teaching English to adult Bosnian Refugees.
From 2005-2006 she volunteered at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department.
In 2007-2008 she volunteered at Bon Secours Maria Manor.
In Jan 2009, she began volunteering at St. Anthony’s Hospital and Hospice Woodside.
She was a member of Lakewood Methodist Church.
Survivors include her two brothers-Gerard LaPorte, Amsterdam, NY, and Andre LaPorte, Amsterdam, NY, and her four sisters Sally Kreucznus, Amsterdam, NY, Jeanette Brown, Pinellas Park, FL, Lucille Visciotti, Melbourne, FL and Toni Lerew, Amsterdam, NY.
Survivors also include 37 nieces, nephews, and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her brothers Leo LaPorte, Joseph LaPorte, and Phillip LaPorte, and her sisters Cecile Parillo and Eva LaPorte.
A service in memory of Marie T. Turley will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Florida Suncoast.
