Claire Mazzella

Obituary of Claire Rae Mazzella

Claire Rae Mazzella, 79, passed away on February 15, 2021, while under the care of hospice in St. Petersburg, Florida. She is survived by her husband John, and brothers Dennis Hevener (Kathy) and Richard Hevener of Ohio. Claire was born and raised in northeast Ohio where she lived most of her life. With her husband, John, they started and operated an electrical contracting business with them serving as the only full time employees. Claire served as CFO and supply runner for the business, often picking up and bringing John the necessary materials to complete jobs. Throughout the years Claire and John came to love the St. Petersburg, Florida area, buying a vacation home and visiting when the business would allow. They slowly became snowbirds, extending their stays for longer periods. The electrical business was quite successful allowing them to sell it and retire as full time residents of St. Petersburg some twenty years ago. Throughout their lives Claire and John traveled extensively, becoming world travelers. They enjoyed cruises the most, taking sometimes two a year for as much as thirty days at a time, to all parts of the world. They’ve been to all the continents and many of the world’s oceans and seas. The couple have visited over 122 countries. They mostly enjoyed the Pacific cruises and Christmas shopping in London and Austria. Claire was an active member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Florida Orchestra Guild, among other volunteer organizations. In August 2015, Claire was given a key to the city and inducted into the St Petersburg Hall of Fame for her decades of service to the Florida Orchestra Guild and Friends of Strays. ]In lieu of a service or memorial at this time, please consider expressing your sympathies with a donation to one of Claire’s favorite charitable organizations: Friends of Strays Animal Shelter 2911 47th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33714 https://friendsofstrays.networkforgood.com/projects/76754-create-a-better-world-for-pets-and-people-support-fos Florida Orchestra Guild of St. Petersburg 244 2nd Avenue North, Suite 420 St. Petersburg, FL 33701 https://www.fogsp.org/
