Richard (Dick) O’Gradney,74, of St Petersburg Florida passed away on Wed. Oct. 28, 2020 surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 8, 1946 to Marcel and Frances O’Gradney. He was the oldest of 7 children. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and attended Wright Junior College and graduated with his AA Degree.
Dick moved to Florida in the 1970s where he enjoyed endless days of fishing in the Gulf and at Ft. Desoto and played basketball at Northwest Youth Center.
He met his wife of 42 years, Katie (Bogk) and together they raised four beautiful children. In the words of his children, he was the BEST DAD ever. He was tough when he needed to be but always let his children know that they were loved. He taught them life lessons of being responsible caring people and his legacy will live on through them. His 10 grandchildren brought him more joy than he ever could have imagined. He was always there with a hug and a kiss and lots and lots of snuggles. He never missed a moment to tell anyone he met that he had the most beautiful family.
Along with being known as a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, and Uncle, he was also known as the “Cheesecake Man”. He developed over 64 different mouthwatering flavors.
Dick is survived by his wife, Katie, his children Seth and Erica, Ben and Jessica, Sarah and Bryan Abernathy , Mackenzie and David Gallace and Cristina Gustillo: his grandchildren Wade, Blake, Garyn, Brooke, Brynn, Emmett, Nolan, Dashel, Emerson and Ross, his sister Michele Stankovic, brothers John and Marty O’Gradney, Cousins Christine Sandel, and the Ash family of Texas whom he loved so dearly and the rest of the O’Gradney and Dallman cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcel and Frances, his brother Michael and his sisters Sharon and Mary Alice. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his dog, Gus.
Katie and the children are forever indebted to Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health Silver Team for their loving care and support. Extra special thanks to his nurses Eida and Char, his aide Janice, his caseworker Josh and Chaplain Tracy. If so inclined please donate to Suncoast Hospice or any charity of your choice in Dick’s name. Due to COVID, the family will not be having a memorial service at this time. A celebration of his life will be held in the future.
Dick had a big heart and a big capacity to love. No longer hindered by his earthly body, we know his spirit is soaring. We take comfort knowing he is finally free but greatly missed.
